Author, Television Personality. Born Claude Hamilton Gresham, this hunting and fishing enthusiast was a pioneer in American conservation efforts and one of the nation's most famous outdoorsman. For many years he was a host and producer of "The American Sportsman" which appeared on ABC and was the host for ESPN's "Shooting Sports America" He wrote several books including "The Complete Book of Bass Fishing", "The Sportsman and his Family Outdoors" and "Grits on Guns". For over twenty-five years the man known for his large hat and long thick sideburns was an editor for "Sports Afield" magazine. He also wrote articles that appeared in many other periodicals during his distinguished career. "Grits" gained fame as one of the original celebrities that appeared on the Miller Lite Beer "Less filling-tastes great" commercials. The avid outdoorsman was one of the first to see the need to preserve the country's wetlands leading efforts to help preserve threatened areas of the Louisiana coast. He died in Natchitoches, Louisiana after a bout with Alzheimer's.
