Professional Baseball Player. He was drafted in the 1982 MLB draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan College as a pitcher by the Cincinnati Reds. Before playing in the major league, he got his start towards the major league at Le Moyne College (1979-1981). After being drafted he started his professional career in the minor league. In 1984 he received his call-up to the Cincinnati Reds. From 1984 until 1994 with the Reds he played in 300 games and started in all but two of them. He pitched his only no-hitter game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Riverfront Stadium on September 16, 1988 which is the only perfect game in Reds history. In 1990 the Reds played in the World Series against the Oakland A's with the Reds winning the Series and becoming the World Series Champions that year. In 1994 he broke his pitching arm while delivering a pitch, which ended his 1994 season. After being traded to the Kansas City Royals he attempted to make a comeback in 1995 but after pitching in only two games he decided to take the rest of the 1995 season off. In 1996 he entered camp with the Royals but before the season started, he decided to retire from the mound. In 2006 he was invited to be a Reds special instructor at spring training. He became a broadcaster for the Reds class A team, the Dragons, and their pitching coach in 2012 and 2015. During his professional career in the majors, he posted a win-loss record of 123-90, an ERA of 3.94, and made 1,000 strikeouts.
