Simeón was a Sugpiaq (Alaska native) born on Kodiak Island about 1790 who was baptized into the Russian Orthodox church. He was a seal and otter hunter employed by the Russian American Company based at Sitka, Russian Alaska. He arrived in Alta California to hunt seal and otters about 1810. He and a companion, "Kilila," were arrested by Spanish authorities for poaching and taken to the Presidio of San Francisco. When Simeón became gravely ill he was baptized at the San Francisco Presidio Chapel on August 3, 1816 (SFD Baptism 05409). He died just one week later and was buried in the Mission San Francisco de Asís cemetery on August 11, 1816 (SFD Death 04119). Upon the death of his friend, "Kilila" was also baptized (SFD Baptism 05410). He died the following month and was buried in the San Francisco de Asís cemetery (SFD Death 04120).
