J A ABERNATHY DIES AT AGE 87; RITES HELD SAT:
Mr John A Abernathy, 87, of Rome, GA, formerly of Rockmart, GA. Route 1,passed away in McCall hospital Friday, April 15.
A native on Cherokee County, Ala, Mr Abernathy was born August 28, 1878, and was the son of the late John T and Amanda Jane Conner Abernathy. He had resided in this section for many years and was a widely known retired farmer.
Private funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, april 16 at 3 o'clock in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral home. The Rev W C Corley officiated, and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were George, Tom and Jack Jordon, Joe and Robert Abernathy, Dan Smith and James Turner.
Mr Abernathy is survived by his wife, Mrs Mytle Abernathy, of Rome, one son, John Ed abernathy of Rockmart, two daughters, Mrs Fred Braswell and Mrs J T Yancey both of Rockmart. one brother, Robert K Abernathy, of Lubbock, Texas; and one sister Mrs J D Jordon of Centre, Ala.
Seven grandchildren also survive.
