Janice (Cravens) Girdner, 78, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at University Heights Nursing Home in Indianapolis. She was a former resident of Greenwood. She was born March 24, 1929, in Russell Springs, Ky., to Welby and Mary Lois (Falkenburg) Cravens. She owned and operated Rendrig House Beauty Salon in Equality, Ala., for 10 years.

She was a member of the Greenwood Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star No. 390 for 50 years. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Indianapolis and more recently attended the White River Baptist Church in Greenwood. She was a talented oil-painting artist. She enjoyed reading, cooking and sewing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Girdner) Wilkerson of New Whiteland; a daughter-in-law, Kuma (Stouch) Girdner of Alabama; two brothers, Charles F. (Mary) Cravens of Nevada and Billy B. (Barbara) Cravens of Florida; a sister, Maxalene (Paul) Osborne of Franklin; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Andrew) Usher, Sandra (Mike) Gieseking and Ashley Wilkerson, all of New Whiteland, and Justin (Kathy) Girdner and Nicholas Girdner, both of Alabama; three great-grandchildren, Quintin and Olivia Gieseking and Zoe Usher, all of New Whiteland; and two great-stepgrandchildren, Michael and Marissa Gieseking, both of New Whiteland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas J. Girdner Jr.; a son, Thomas J. Girdner III; and a sister, Marguerite Hughes.

Private family funeral services were conducted.
