Willis Isaac Mitchell was born in Indiana 19 APR 1876. He was the son of Preston H. Mitchell and Mary Jane Mosier Mitchell.

Willis was one of the younger siblings in his family. Both his parents had been married and widowed previously and had children from their first marriages. Willis had four step siblings: two step-sisters from his father's marriage and two step-brothers from his mother's.

Dora V Mitchell 1857–1945
Rebecca Mitchell 1861–

John Andrew Mitchell 1860–1917
Nathaniel W Mitchell 1862–1935

Willis also has five full siblings:

Ida Bell Mitchell 1866–1880
Marion Gales Mitchell 1867–1924
Rhoda Ada "Addie" Mitchell 1869–1911
Thomas Washington Mitchell 1874–1945
Willis Isaac Mitchell 1876–1943
Viola Myrtle Mitchell 1878–1928

(HIs sister Ida Bell died when Willis was only 2 and his step-siblings likely never lived in the household while Willis was growing up.)

When Willis was 21 he married Margaret Olive Burch on Sep 5 1897. They had eight children, all linked below.

Willis worked as a farm laborer for other farmers. In 1910 he moved the family to Galveston Texas so her could hire with a grower there. By 1912 he was back in Indiana again where his younger children were born. In the early 1920s the family lived adjoining his wife Margaret's family, possibly on Burch family property. By 1928 he had purchased property on the Tramway Road which he farmed without great success.

Willis' wife died in 1929 of stomach cancer. By then some of the older children had left home.

Willis sold off part of his land in 1928 and 1938 later moving in with his son, Alva, in Bloomington, Indiana, and later still, with his son, Cresson in Issaquah, Washington. Willis also lived with his daughter, Emma, and her family before his death in 1943. Cause of death was heart disease coupled with an earlier stroke.
