Professional Baseball Player. As a youth, he attended East St. Louis Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, Illinois where he excelled in 3 sports before going to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. After graduating college, he served for 3 years in the United States Army. In 1960 as a free agent, he began his professional career as an outfielder with the Philadelphia Phillies making his debut on April 9, 1962, where he played for one season. For the remainder of his career, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1963), St. Louis Cardinals (1965–1967), Chicago Cubs (1967–1968), Los Angeles Dodgers (1968), Cincinnati Reds (1969), Milwaukee Brewers (1970–1971) and the Kansas City Royals (1971). He made his last appearance in the Major League on July 3, 1971. In his 9-year career he played in 642 games, made 34 home runs, batted in 163 runs, and had a batting average of .233. When he retired from baseball he returned to college and attained his Ph.D. in urban studies from Saint Louis University. He became the assistant director of community relations and a minor-league instructor in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He retired in 2012 and was in 2006 was inducted into the Lincoln University Alumni Hall of Fame.
