On December 19, 2007 at about 5:15 a.m., Lieutenant
Joseph Candie of Robert Scott Correctional Facility (SCF)
in Plymouth,MI was shot and killed at a gas station near the
facility. Hours later, another MDOC employee was found
on Belle Isle, Detroit with an apparent self-inflicted gun shot
wound. This employee was in a vehicle matching the
description of the one that was involved in the shooting of
Lt. Candie. The suspect is expected to survive and has
been arraigned on murder charges in connection with the
shooting of Lt. Candie.
