Commander Clinton Critchifeld, age 78, died suddenly April 18, 1978. He was a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard and at the time of his retirement he was the officer in charge of the Memphis district.
Born on December 15, 1899, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Thomas and Caroline Rost Critchfield. On October 22, 1924, he was married in Ste. Genevieve by Fr. Charles Van Tourenhout to Marien Herzog who survives.
Surviving also are two children: Clinton Critchfield Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; and Loretta Willis of Ste. Genevieve. A son, Lawrence is deceased.
Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Deceased brothers and sisters are: Thomas, Sam, Sallie Belle Tibbs, Grace Haskins, and Elma Curley.
The remains rested at the Basler Funeral Home. Chapel services were scheduled for Thursday April 20, 11 a.m. with Msgr. James Holland officiating. Burial was to be in Valle Spring Cemetery.
