Virgil C. Lowe, 90, of the Smokey Junction community, passed away early Thursday morning, February 1, 1990, at his home.
He was the son of the late Ewell Lowe and the late Melvina Cross Lowe and was also preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Cook Lowe; one son, Ewell Lowe; one daughter, Vena Lowe; one grandson, Cletus Ray Mason; one great-granddaughter, Cordie Lynell Potter; eight sisters: Kizzie Owens, Berthana Anderson, June Welch, Bertha Welch, Minnie Cook, Tilatha Owens, Ethel Lowe, and Edith Burress; and two sons-in-law.
Mr. Lowe was a retired railroadman having served the Tennessee Railroad for forty-two years before retiring in 1957. He was also a deacon and treasurer of the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
Mr. Lowe is survived by two daughters: Irma Lee Mason of Smokey Junction, and Patricia Kay Lowe and husband, Larry Wayde Lowe of Smokey Junction; two sons: Roland Lowe and wife, Maudie of Smokey Junction, and Donald Lowe and wife, Joyce of the Fairview community; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Lowe of Fairborn, O.; two sisters: Helen Sharp of LaFollette and Edna Griffith of the Swifton Village community; two brothers: Jacob Lowe and wife, Juanita of LaFollette, and Raymond Lowe and wife, Inez of Jacksboro; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 4, with Rev. Ronald Massengale and Rev. Hayes Bass officiating. Flonnie and Ray Daugherty sang. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
