Born Yoshio James Yoda, he studied law at Keio University in Japan, prior to relocating to California where he received his degree in Cinema Arts from the University of Southern California. He made his professional debut in the motion picture "The Horizontal Lieutenant" (1962). In addition to the entire run of the television series "McHale's Navy," he appeared in both films from the series "McHale's Navy" (1964) and "McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force" (1966). He had a credit in the TV series "Love, American Style" (1969), prior to retiring and working in marketing for Toyota in Hawaii.
