Sheriff deputy killed from ambush near his home at Smith, KY. Ford Farmer and Hobart Middleton shot him in the back with a shotgun 6 times. They were arrested but released due to insufficient evidence. On September 4, 1932, Ford Farmer was hit by the Louisville and Nashville Train near Smith; one foot amputated and two skull fractures listed as cause of death.
