A biographical compendium of Hancock county would be incomplete without a specific mention of the late Josephus Wright, of Buck Creek township, for many years a successful farmer and and itelligent and progressive man. He was born on what is known as the old Wright homestead, Buck Creek township, the son of William Wright, The subject was reared to the honorable pursuit of agriculture and, like the majority of the country boys, his youthful years were marked by no striking events. Early taught the lessons of of industry, he was lead to believe that all genuine success depended upon merit and honest toil. He was but a lad of nine years when his father died and in consequence therof he was not able to attend schools as much as.
A reader and observer, with quick perception and naturally bright mind, he made up this deficiency later in life by keeping well informed upon the great questions in which the people are generally interested, especially political and kindred topics. Like a dutiful son, he mani tested his love and appreciation of his mother by remaining with herwhile she lived, ministering to her comfort in every way possible and taking upon his own shoulders the burden of managing the farm. After the death of his mother he took full charge ofthe homestead and continued to cultivate the same as long as he lived, meeting with a large measure of success as a farmer and stock raiser and establishing an enviable reputation as a clearheaded business man and useful citizen.
Mr. Wright was married September 24, 1864, to Miss Amanda Wallace,. of Buck Creek township, the daughter of John and Lucy (Collins)**(please see note below) Wallace, a union blessed with 12 children, Lucy J., wife of James Evans, William E., Charles. Husband of Laura Russell., John F.. Emma A,. wife of Sanford Girt,. Walter L., Thomas E., Daisy,. Harley., Minnie., Maggie, Augusta..
Mr. Wright devoted his entire life to agriculture and by industry , successful management and economy acquired a comforable competence and left his family in excellent circustances. He served his day and generation well and departed this life on the 20th day of December, 1893, leaving to his posterity a name and reputation untarnished by the commission of unworth acts. Since his death Mrs. Wright, with the assistance of her children has looked after the farm, a beautiful place of one hundred and fifty-nine acres,fertile of soil and admirably situated for a comfortable rural home. (The wording and spelling of names were direct from the book)
**(NOTE) There is a question on Amanda's mother. Some records show she was Mary Ann (Fort), and after she past, her stepmother was Eliza Ann (Sanders)

There is 20 acres, left of the original Wright homestead,and his descendants still live on the property
