Mr. Alver T. Gunn Jr., 77, of LaGrange died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel in LaGrange with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

Mr. Gunn is survived by his wife, Virginia Gunn of LaGrange; two daughters, Muriel Hamby of Huguley and Nan Moncus Helms of LaGrange; four sons, Alver III "Bubba" (Kathy) Gunn, Pete Gunn, Mike (Sandra) Moncus and Tim Moncus, all of LaGrange; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Gooden of LaFayette, Erma Black and Mildred Lott, both of West Point; two brothers, Arthur Gunn of Hartsville, S.C. and Gene Gunn of Conyers, Ga.; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emmie and Larry Wilson of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.

Born March 2, 1923 in Troup County, Ga., Mr. Gunn formerly owned and operated several glass shops in the area and also owned and operated "The Grill" restaurant in Hogansville. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received two battle stars and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, DeeDee Gunn, Patti Gunn and Janie Hibbs. He was the son of the late Alver Turner Sr. and Lois Duffy Gunn.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Gunn.

The family may be reached at their home at 307 Harwell Ave. They will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home in LaGrange.
