Orpha Jeannette Motes, age 76,, of Palatka, died Sunday, June 3, 2000 at Putnam Community Medical Center after a long illness.
She was a native of Hickox, Ga. and had lived in Palatka since 1946, coming from Camp Blanding, Fl. She was a member of Lemon Heights Baptist Church and had worked in the multiwall department of Hudson Pulp & Paper Company for 20 years. She had also worked as a telephone operator at Camp Blanding during WW II.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Motes; her parents, Gilbert & Mary Edna McGauley; her sisters, Theo Green and Connie Bagwell; and her brother, Henry R. McGauley.
She is survived by her son Carl D. Motes of Orlando; two brothers, G. E. "Sam" McGauley of Welaka and Jennings McGauley of Jacksonville; three sisters, Willene Stokes of Palatka, Juanita Hardy of Starke, and Mary Furnas of Fernandina Beach, Fl.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7th at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Rev. clint Buchanan and Rev. Joe McCullough officiating. Burial will follow in Peniel Cemetery.
