David Alvin Gratton, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born on July 29, 1938 in Pittsfield, IL to Arthur and Dorothy Whittaker Gratton. He married Gertie Nash in 1960 in Bowling Green, MO and she survives.
David attended school in Pittsfield and went on to join the United States Marine Corps where he served for 2 months but was honorably discharged after two months due to his health. He became a truck driver for Arthur Crowder Trucking then went to work for Eastern Express Incorporated. David also sold real estate for a time for Surety Real Estate and did demolition jobs for many years. He loved going to yard sales and enjoyed buying and selling.
He is survived by his wife, Gertie Gratton of Pittsfield, IL; son, Patrick Gratton of Pittsfield, IL; three daughters, Linda Gratton, Mary Ann (George) Spoonmore, and Lisa Gratton, all of Pittsfield, IL; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dorothy Gratton; son, David Gratton; grandson, Brady Edwards; brothers, James Gratton and Charles Gratton; and sister, Ada Forbes.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Nebo Cemetery in Nebo, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded.
