Louise Ackeberg, 94, of Lyndon, IL, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Rock River Hospice House, in Sterling, IL.
There will be no visitation. A private family funeral service will be held.
The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home of Prophetstown, IL, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be in the Lyndon Cemetery, in Lyndon.
Memorials to the Prophetstown United Methodist Church and the Rock River Hospice and Home have been established.
Louise was born July 4, 1928, in Kewanee, IL, to Lester and Dorothy (Ellenwood) Johnston.
She graduated 8th grade from the rural country Burns School, near Bishop Hill, IL, and in 1946 she graduated from Galva High School, in Galva, IL. Louise went on to receive an Associates Degree from the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, IA. On April 3, 1949, she married Richard D. Ackeberg at the United Methodist parsonage, in Cambridge, IL. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage this April. Louise worked for Schwind-Boeker car dealership, as a secretary before she was married. She later worked for the Prophetstown Echo and at Tampico High School. She excelled at being a homemaker, mother and wife. She was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church since 1950 and a charter member of the Wesleyan Fellowship. For many years she volunteered for Pat's Table; was in the women's circle and never missed an opportunity to whip something up for a funeral luncheon. Louise was the oldest living woman resident of Lyndon Township and she always put others before herself. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and served as an election judge. Louise was an avid Autumn Leaf Jewel Tea collector. Once a month, she would have lunch with her high school classmates and their daughters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands; one son and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Shirley Peterson.
