Thankful is the daughter of John and Thankful (Griswold) Ward. She was born in Middletown, Middlesex county, Connecticut and died there as well. She married Joseph Barnes when she was just 17 years old, he being ten years her senior. Together they had four children, one born after his father's death in the Revolutionary War. As far as I can tell, only one reached maturity, Joseph.
