Actor and theater director. Regarded as one of the most famous dramatic actors in late-19th and early 20th-century Poland, Adwentowicz gained fame for his performances as Hamlet in productions of the William Shakespeare play for 23 years. He began acting in theater groups in the early 1890s and performed in theaters in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Częstochowa, Suwałki, Poznań, Kraków, Warsaw, and cities throughout the Russian empire through the end of the century. Adwentowicz performed at the Lviv Opera from 1900 to 1912, where he first gained recognition for his portrayal of Hamlet. After serving in the Polish Legions during World War I, he continued performing across Poland, eventually managing, directing, and owning his own theaters, including the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź and the Ateneum Theatre and Chamber Theatre in Warsaw. Adwentowicz was arrested by the German Gestapo in 1942 and following his release from prison in 1943 he worked with underground art groups until the end of World War II. He continued acting and operating several theaters in the post-war years until his death in 1958.
