Politician and communist activist. Alster served as a member of the Polish Legislative Sejm and the first term of the Sejm of the People's Republic of Poland, as the deputy minister of internal affairs, and as deputy minister of the municipal economy. Following his arrest for disseminating communist literature in 1924, he joined the Communist Party of Poland where he held a number of positions. He was arrested multiple times before finding work in a factory in Soviet-occupied Poland during World War II. Alster joined the 1st Corps of the Polish Armed Forces in the USSR, was named the deputy head of the educational department of the 2nd Infantry Division, and then took over as head of the political and educational department. In 1944, he became the head of the Military Department of the Polish Workers' Party. After the war, he held several roles with the Polish Workers' Party, including as the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the party in Bydgoszcz and as a member of the Central Committee. From 1947 to 1952, Alster was a member of the Polish Workers' Party to the Legislative Sejm before becoming a member of the Sejm of the People's Republic of Poland's first term from 1952 to 1956. He served as deputy minister of internal affairs and of the municipal economy until his retirement in 1968. Outside of politics, Alster was an accomplished graphic designer.
