Lawyer, Politician. Wacław Barcikowski served as the first president of the Polish Supreme Court from 1945 to 1956 and as president of the Polish Democratic Party from 1949 to 1956. He also served as the deputy speaker of the Legislative Sejm from 1947 to 1952, a member of the State Council from 1947 to 1952, and as deputy chairman of the State Council. Originally a prosecutor and lawyer, he represented clients in high-profile cases such as the Brest and Lutsk trials. By the mid-1930s, he was associated with the League for the Defense of Human and Civil Rights and then became a member of the Democratic Party in Warsaw. Barcikowski was a major figure in the Polish resistance movement during World War II, serving as chairman of the Supreme People's Committee of the United Democratic and Socialist Parties.
