Richard was a graduate of Joliet Township High School. He worked for Diageo in Plainfield for several years. In Richard's younger years, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes and fishing with his dad, he spoke often of a trip they took to Canada. Richard also enjoyed music, especially playing his guitar, he was self-taught and while it was mostly a hobby, he really had fun making noise.
Preceded in death by his father Kenneth Gerat, his maternal grandparents Joseph and Josephine Dileto and his paternal grandparents Andrew and Mary Gerat.
