Dr. Lewis Byrd Willis received his medical education and upon his graduation in 1825, went with his parents to Florida. Here he set up a practice in Tallahassee for 10 years, but in 1835 he moved to Pensacola. In the fall of that same year he died in a fall from a horse into a swollen stream while crossing.

He was buried in Pensacola. His first wife was Lucea Beverley Hackley. She died soon after the birth of their only child. His second wife was Harriet Tucker Randolph, his first wife's cousin, their mother's were sisters. His third wife was Hester Savage.

Inscription

While the marker says Louis for his first name, records indicate that his first name was actually LEWIS.
The dates of birth and death are incorrect on the stone. He was born in 1801 and died in 1835.
