Władysław Cegielska served as Poland's minister of health and social welfare from January 12, 1991 to December 23, 1991 before serving as a senator of the sixth and seventh terms of the Sejm from 2005 to 2011. He acted as chair of the Health Committee and was a member of the Senate Human Rights, Defense, Foreign Affairs, and Family and Social Policy committees. A longtime member of the trade union "Solidarity," he was a delegate to the 1st National Congress, chairman of the Regional Coordinating Committee for Health Care Workers, and vice chairman of the National Coordinating Committee in the 1980s. He took part in the Polish Round Table Talks in 1989 and also was a member of the Lower Silesian assembly from 1998 to 2005.
