Bible records kept by Theodosia Turner Spencer, 1812-1867, wife of Oded Spencer (copy of record in Despencer, Vol. 5, No. 2, Apr 1982); 3. an intimate journal of the wife of an Itinerant Methodist Episcopal Minister" kept by Mrs. Maria Bissell Spencer (1817-1901) of Rev. Moses Spencer (1820-1893) --copy in the Holton, KS Library. Peter S. Miller states: "When Abner was 18 his father sold three separate parcels of land in East Haddam. A few days later, in Jul 1780, he purchased an 86 acre farm parcel near the Deerfield River, south of the village of Wilmington, VT. Abner's family consisted of his father Thomas Spencer, two older sisters, Hannah Spencer and Anne Spencer, a younger sister, Lydia Spencer, and three younger brothers: Elijah, Nathaniel, and Joseph Spencer. His sisters married first and moved away, probably all to Whitingham, just south of Wilmington. Elijah and later Nathaniel moved to Dolgeville, NY, by 1800. Joseph is last recorded in Wilmington in 1824, what happened to him remains unknown.
