His plantation is still standing today and is called Bellemonte. It is currently valued at $6 million. It was burned and rebuilt by Amos. The family had to leave the farm during the Civil War when the Northern troops marched through Augusta Co. The family barely had time to grab the children and some of their possessions before the advancing troops arrived. The family he sold the land to was related to us per Sadie Froom. He was a lawyer. BIRTH: from tombstone and bible records. The 1870 mortality schedule says he was born in PA but the censuses of 1850 and 1860 say he was born in VA. His father named him in his will as executor. Amos' lineage is proven on DAR and SAR papers of descendants and family records written by his grandson John Crosby through both his father George Crosby and mother Susannah Evans. He was named for his maternal grandfather Amos Evans of PA

MARRIAGE: Amos Crosby m. Mary Anderson bond Mar 24 1813. Married Mar 25 1813 Vol II p 32 Per notes of Eastern Mennonite College it was June 10 1813 and minister was William King.

OBIT: Staunton Spectator Sep 14 1869. Died Aug 30, Monday, at his residence near Spring Hill, Mr. Amos Crosby, in his 83rd year. member of the Methodist Church.

WILL: None found in Augusta Co per Clerk of Courthouse.

TOMBSTONE: Amos Crosby died Aug 29 1869 Aged 83. He has his own family cemetery on his land at top of small hill. Fenced and maintained. Family Bible also states he died August 29, 1869.

NEWS: Connelly, Captain No 29 Captain Connelly, a young man, of black complexion, was born of a free woman, and bound out as an apprentice by the Overseers of the Poor for Augusta County, to Amos Crosby; being now freed of his apprenticeship, is hereby registered this 29th day of March 1820.
