His plantation is still standing today and is called Bellemonte. It is currently valued at $6 million. It was burned and rebuilt by Amos. The family had to leave the farm during the Civil War when the Northern troops marched through Augusta Co. The family barely had time to grab the children and some of their possessions before the advancing troops arrived. The family he sold the land to was related to us per Sadie Froom. He was a lawyer. (Bartenslager?)

BIRTH: from tombstone and bible records. The 1870 mortality schedule says he was born in PA but the censuses of 1850 and 1860 say he was born in VA. His father named him in his will as executor.
