Professional Football Player. For eleven seasons (1965 to 1975), he played at the quarterback position in the National Football League with the Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons. Born Robert Chadwick Berry, he made his initial impact on the football field during his years at Willow Glen High School where his father served as head coach. He enrolled at the University of Oregon and while with the Ducks, he quarterbacked the team to three consecutive winning seasons, in addition to being the first passer to top 1,000 throwing yards for two years in a row. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles during the 11th round of the 1964 NFL Draft, he ended up signing with the Minnesota Vikings where he served as a backup for Fran Tarkenton and later Joe Kapp. After he was acquired by the Atlanta Falcons, he distinguished himself when he achieved Pro-Bowl honors in 1969. In 1972, he produced a career-high 2,158 passing yards. In 78 career regular season games, he compiled 9,197 passing yards, with 64 touchdowns. He was inducted into the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992.
