Reeves is the son of Leander Blevins and Margaret "Peggy" Osborn. He was born in Cranberry, Alleghany county, NC, the first son of 7 sons and with 7 sisters.

His brother, Alsander, died at the NC asylum in Raleigh.

He is a cousin of Rufus Koontz, also buried here.

Reeves was admitted to the asylum in September of 1897 at the age of 21 and spent the remainder of his life there, dying of chronic heart disease. His marker number, 2205, indicates he was the 2205th person admitted to the asylum. He was hospitalized 51 yr 9 mo 16 days - not the longest stay at the asylum despite its length.

His father's name is given on the death certificate.
