US Congressman. He attended Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson), graduated from Pennsylvania's Carlisle Law School, and became an attorney in 1841. From 1845 to 1848 he was Clerk of the Indiana County Court, and from 1859 to 1860 he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In 1872 Taylor was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican and served one term, 1873 to 1875. He did not run for reelection in 1874 and returned to his law practice. Taylor was a highly regarded instructor who trained several law students at his firm, including future Pennsylvania Governor John S. Fisher. His home is Indiana's oldest building and is currently part of the city's historical walking tour.
