Cheryl Ann (Ohlsen) Bergene, age 73, died peacefully at home on May 8, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Cheryl loved the outdoors, especially during the summer months. She took great joy in her flower beds and vegetable garden. She collected a wide variety of hostas and hosted annual plant sales to share her love of plants with others. Cheryl loved all animals, particularly her beloved pets, especially Freckles. Additionally, she fed the chipmunks, gophers, and any other animal that showed up in the yard. Cheryl loved listening to the birds who visited the bird feeders, particularly mourning doves and chickadees. She looked forward to the arrival of the hummingbirds and robins each spring.

Cheryl enjoyed traveling, both local and across the nation. Her adventures took her to national parks in Alaska, California, Kentucky, Maine, North Carolina, and Washington. She traveled to see covered bridges in Indiana and New England. She also enjoyed visiting parks, lighthouses, and water falls in Wisconsin. Some of her favorite places were the Apostle Islands, Washington Island, Cave Point, Porcupine Mountain and more locally, Cedar Lake Park and Cato Falls Park.

Cheryl was gifted artist. She created woven baskets and macrame art. She also sewed, crocheted, and knitted, creating gifts for family and friends. She co-owned a small business, painting images of animals on concrete yard pieces and tree slabs. She was an avid reader, particularly stories about animals.

Cheryl attended Reedsville High School. During her senior year, she transferred to and graduated from Hilbert High School in 1968.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 53 years, David, daughters Jennifer (Bergene) Vogel of Manitowoc, WI and Lisa Beth Bergene of Durham, NC. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Kaley (Blake) Marrari of Waukesha, WI and Jacob Vogel of Eau Claire, WI. She is survived by her brother Jim (Janet) Ohlsen of Potter, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Ohlsen and Florence (Mrotek) Ohlsen and her mother-in-law Elizabeth (Andres) Bergene and father-in-law Norman Bergene. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, and one sister-in-law: June, Bonnie, Betty, Tom, and Joanie. Additionally, she is survived by three sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private service will be held for Cheryl at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society of Manitowoc (1551 N 8th St, Manitowoc, WI 54220).
