Dr. Noman G. Giebler, 92, Hays, died Monday, May 15, 2023, at Via Christi Village.


He was born April 19, 1931, in Hays, the son of Edmund and Anna (Staab) Giebler. He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in 1949 and Creighton University School of Dentistry. Norman was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a dental officer. On July 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to Elaine M. Karlin in Hays, and they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in 2006. Norman owned Norman G. Giebler Dentistry, served as president of the Kansas Dental Board, and was on the Regional Board of Dental Examiners. His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Assembly #282, Elks Lodge, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. He was a handyman, tinkering and fixing projects around the house. In the mid-80's he took up the hobby of model railroading and joined the Kansas Pacific Model Railroad Club. Norman enjoyed singing in the St. Joseph Church Choir, Hays High Plains Barbershop Chorus, and the Volga German Men's Choir.


Survivors include his two sons, David Giebler and wife Cyndee of Porterfield, WI and Timothy Giebler and wife Sherry of Olathe; two daughters, Julie Becker of Overland Park and Lucy Hahn and husband Christian of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, Patrick Giebler and wife Terri of Colby; a sister, Bernice Schumacher of Chesterfield, MO; five grandchildren, Lisa Giebler and husband Michael Shanahan, Emma Giebler, Karl and Erik Hahn, and Conrad Giebler; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine, four brothers, Herbert, Albert, Edmund, and Harold Giebler, a sister, Sybilla Schukman, and a granddaughter, Melissa Becker.
