He was born on December 22, 1935, in Mason City to Jacob Washington and Emma Lillian (Jurgens) Benedict. He married Winifred "Wini" Miller on November 5, 1960, and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2016.
Carl always enjoyed working, starting early in his youth as a paper boy, followed by numerous other jobs. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked for over 25 years as a railroad engineer for the P&PU, TP&W, Santa Fe Railroad. He also owned and operated Benedict Auto Sales for 61 years. He enjoyed working on all cars, and had a passion for classic cars, trains, music and a good cold beer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, John Benedict and Harold Benedict.
Surviving are his children, Rosemary Gray, Donald Benedict, Daniel Benedict, Debra (Brian) Shirley, Diane Benedict and Darlene (Richard) Gutierrez.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
