He was born on July 18, 1933, in Springfield, Ill., son of Jacob Washington and Emma Lillian Juergens Benedict. He was previously married to Gloria E. Cooksey of East Peoria.
Surviving are one son, Terry Benedict and his fiancee, Kim Barnewolt; three daughters, Karen Blum, Angie Bury and Lisa Scheerer, all of East Peoria; seven grandsons, Chris Benedict and his family, Angie, Caitlyn and Logan, Scott Benedict and his fiancee, Maggie Kuester, Andrew Benedict and his wife Cassie, Zach and Aaron Scheerer and Taylor and Jacob Bury; three granddaughters, Nicole O'Connell and her family Todd and Owen, Lauren Benedict and Andrea Bury; two brothers, John Benedict and his wife, Wilva of East Peoria and Carl Benedict and his wife, Winnie of Washington, Ill.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
Harold was an East Peoria police officer for 10 years. He later worked at A.F.S.C.M.E. in Springfield as assistant director, retiring on Jan. 31, 1994, where he was a member of its Retiree Chapter.
He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in East Peoria.
Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
