Professional Basketball Player, Major League Baseball Player. Born Charles Francis Nash, his father was an engineer. Charles moved often with his family and lived in Texas and Indiana, where he attended Jeffersonville High School for two years. During this time, he made his first impact on the basketball court with the school team. After his family relocated to Louisiana, he attended Lake Charles High School where he played basketball and football. After accepting a scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky, he played college baseball and basketball, achieving All-American honors in the latter (1964) and setting a school career scoring record. During this period, he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Nash was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2nd round of the 1964 NBA Draft. He was also chosen by the Los Angeles Angels in 1964 as an amateur free agent. He began his professional basketball career at the small-forward position with the Lakers in 1964 and was acquired by the San Francisco Warriors during the 1964-1965 season. He played for one season in the American Basketball Association with the Kentucky Colonels (1967-1968). He played for parts of three seasons of Major League Baseball (first baseman and left fielder) with the Chicago White Sox (1967) and Minnesota Twins (1969 to 1970). After retiring as a player, he went on to raise racing standardbred horses. For his accomplishments in basketball, his uniform Number 44 was retired by the University of Kentucky.
