Gene was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He married Etta Mae Freeman June 26, 1964, and they were blessed with four children. Gene was a heavy equipment operator at Williamsville Stone for forty-one years. He was a good provider for his family. He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Williamsville. He was a Sunday school teacher, song leader, and kept up with the maintenance at church. Gene took pride in his yard and enjoyed keeping it manicured. His greatest legacy was his family, which he was very proud of.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Joe and Ray Dougherty; sisters: Irene Goebel, Opal Foster, Mary Marler, Lorene Burns, Mildred Eads, and Ruth Shular.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years; children: Terry Dougherty of Williamsville, Doug Dougherty and wife Linda of Naylor, Lori Morey and husband James of Williamsville, Dana Bratton and husband Don of Williamsville; grandchildren: Brandon Morey, Jaimie Morey, Joey Morey, Tyler Dougherty, Taylor Bolt, Sydney Wheat; twelve great-grandchildren; sister: Verna Mae Nunn of Orville, CA. Gene will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm, also in the Williamsville Chapel. Pastor Henry Pasquet ministered to the family. Pastor Douglas Clinton gave a heartfelt eulogy. Charles "Bubsy" Goforth provided a special song. Tyler Dougherty, Joey Morey, Brandon Morey, Jimmy Morey, Matt Wheat, and Alex Bolt served as pallbearers. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Williamsville.
