Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1920s. He was born as Abraham Atkins to Jack Moore and his wife Angie Moore Atkins in Tamms, Illinois, on November 20, 1893. He was educated locally, worked as a laborer in Toledo, Ohio, and later served his country during World War I, from August 2, 1918, until he was discharged on December 17, 1918. He then pursued a professional baseball career. He played the position of third baseman for the Toledo Tigers making his professional baseball debut with them in 1927. The 5'8" and 170lbs third baseman continued to play with the Toledo Tigers through the rest of the baseball season of 1927. His 162 Game Average consisted of 324 Plate Appearances, -10.8 Total Wins Above Replacement, -3.7 Offensive Wins Above Replacement, -7.3 Fielding Wins Above Replacement, 0.0 Pitching Wins Above Replacement, and 0.2 Positional Adjustment. He was a resident of Akron, Ohio, for many years, and a member of the St. Luke's Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio. He passed away suddenly after collapsing at his home in Akron, Ohio, on October 17, 1961, at the age of 67. Following his death, his funeral service was held at the Turner Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio, and he was buried in Glendale Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. A widower, he was survived by his daughter Leatrice Atkins Dillard.
