Albert Lewis Lee, 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at Windsor Place.
Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 11:00AM at Lowndes Funeral Home,
Columbus, MS. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home with
Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Lee was born in Carrollton, Alabama, on June 13, 1931, to the late Edgar Carson and Flora Jane Johnson Lee. He attended Carrollton High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He attended the University of Alabama and was a member of the Theta Tau engineering fraternity. Mr. Lee married Virginia Hickman on August 18, 1956, and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS, where he was also a past deacon. He was an avid fan of all the University of Alabama sports teams. In his younger years, he enjoyed square dancing and coached Dennis in baseball and football. As a devoted supporter of New Hope sports, he loved watching his grandsons play.
Mr. Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. As a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he was a Resident Engineer for the Columbus Lock and Dam, Aberdeen Lock and Dam, and Fulton Lock and Dam. After 31 years in civil engineering, he became the Project Manager at R & D Maintenance Company, where he spent 5 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lee is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hickman Lee; brothers, William Edgar Lee, Earlie Cohen Lee, George Hilton Lee, Felton Hugh Lee, Herman Otis Lee and Ellis Murphy Lee; and sister, Alice Maureen Turnipseed.
Mr. Lee is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Andy) Boyd; son, Dennis Lewis (Jo Nell) Lee; grandchildren, Lee (Allison) Boyd, Russ (Jessica) Boyd, Davis Lee, Peyton (Kati) Lee, Landon (Ashley) Boyd and Alex Lee; and great- grandchildren, Audrey Boyd, Brady Boyd, Evie Boyd, Ellen Boyd, Emma Kate Lee, Etta Drue Boyd, Sophie Lee and Alaina Boyd.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Lee Boyd, Russ Boyd, Landon Boyd, Davis Lee, Peyton Lee and Alex Lee.
Honorary Pallbearers are the staff at the Arrington Assisted Living and members of the late John Wierengo Sunday School Class at Fairview Baptist Church.
