Richard Sheridan, an early settler of the lead region and one of the first to locate at New Diggings, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. Anna Early, in Dubuque. He was a native of Kilmore, County Cavan, Ireland, and was 86 years of age. In the early twenties he landed in New York and while in that city worked on the Tribune, then the leading paper of the United States. He voted for Andrew Jackson in 1832 and was a Democrat all his life. Mrs. John Shanley of Mineral Point and Mrs. Early are his only surviving children. His death was caused by old age. Burial was made in Key West cemetery, Dubuque.
