Harry C. Whaley, "The Whaler", age 84, of Perrysburg, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, surrounded by his loving family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 10, 1923, in Oakdale, TN to David and Clara (Koontz) Whaley. Harry was a US Marine Corps Sergeant serving in the Pacific during World War II and a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a conductor and brakeman for B&O Railroad, Chessie and CSX for 33 years, retiring in 1985. Harry was a member of Moose Lodge of Oak Harbor and the DAV in Toledo. He was also an active member of U.T.U. Local 1816 where he held many offices. Harry was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Anna Mae (Gabele) Whaley; children, Larry Whaley of Perrysburg, Gloria (Robert) Walter of Perrysburg and Barbara (Dan) Pindoley of Waterville; stepchildren, Ken (Tammy) Blair of Waterville, Dennis (Becky) Blair of Rossford, Teresa (Mark) Schiess of California and Doug (Stephanie) Blair of Toledo; brother, Warren (Mary Ann) of Florida and Wayne Whaley of North Carolina; sister, Peggy Dowell of Tennessee. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 13 siblings and great-grandson, Dawson. Friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Deacon Larry Tiefenbach officiating. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Northwood VFW Post 2984. The family suggests that memorial contributions in Harry's memory be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Rose Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
