WHALEY, Meredith—A very sad occurrence here this week was the death of little Meredith WHALEY, the 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave WHALEY. The little fellow, on Saturday afternoon, while visiting a neighbor, got hold of some blasting powder and he and his little friends were rolling it in newspaper and then lighting the newspaper to see it explode. His pockets were full and in setting fire to the paper it caught the powder in his pockets, which exploded, burning him terribly about the body and limbs. He walked home, something like a half a mile after his injury. He lived until Monday afternoon suffering terribly, of course, when he died. He was buried at Crab Orchard Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. The little fellow was known by every one here and because of his brightness and good disposition, was liked by all who knew him.
