5th New Hampshire Infantry Mus Co G. Civil War. This unit lost more men in battle than any other Union Infantry or Cavalry Regiment. Total dead and wounded was 1051. Mustered in October 22, 1861. Some of his battles included Yorktown, Seven Pines, Seven days before Richmond, Orchard Station, Peach Orchard, Allen's Farm, Savage Station, White Oak Swamp, Glendale, Malvern Hill, Harrison's Landing, Bull Run, Maryland Campaign, South Mountain, Antietam Creek, Antietam, Fredricksburg, Burnsides second campaign, Mud March, Chancellorsville Campaign & Battle, Rappanhannock recon & campaign, Gettysburg Campaign & Battle, Cold Harbor, before Petersburg and Siege of, Jurusalem Plank Road, Deep Bottom, Strawberry Plains, Reams Station, Dabney's Mills, Hatchers Run, White Oak Road, Sutherland Station, Fall of Petersburg, Saylors Creek, High Bridge, Farmville, The remainder of the outfit attended the surrender of General Lee at Appomatix Court House on April 9th 1861. They mustered out July 28,1865. This man knew all to well the horror and death of the Civil War. However he saw the victory in the end for his comrads and his country.
