Dancer. She was the daughter of Shoji and Frances Fitzpatrick Osato. She began her career in ballet at the age of 14 when she joined Ballets Russe de Monte-Carlo. She then attended the American School of Ballet before joining the American Ballet Theatre. While there, she performed in "Sleeping Beauty," "Pillar of Fire," "Romeo and Juliet," and "The Beloved." She received a Donalson Award for her performance in "One Touch of Venus" on Broadway. During WWII she performed for a short time under the name Sono Fitzpatrick, using her mother's maiden name. She pursued a career as an actress, performing in such shows as "On the Town" and "Peer Gynt" on Broadway and in the film "The Kissing Bandit" with Frank Sinatra. She also did guest appearances on television shows such as "The Adventures of Ellery Queen." She penned her memoir, "Distant Dances," in 1980. She established the Sono Osato Scholarship Program for Graduate Studies in 2006.
