Born January 4 th , 1960, in Leavenworth, Ks. She was one of four children, two brothers Greg and Kevin Jones, and one sister, born to Mary Ellen and Guss Jones. Cindy was raised in Lansing, Ks where she lived throughout her childhood and through her graduation from Lansing High School, Class of 1978. She was always very proud of where she was from, and she always lived and worked in the Lansing and Leavenworth areas throughout her life.
Cindy was a very driven and hardworking woman. She spent her life working in various career fields ranging from working in accounting for Hallmark Card, to owning her own daycare called Just 4 Kids, as a bus driver for the Easton School District, as a dispatcher for the Leavenworth Police Department, as a cook for the Fort Leavenworth School District, and finally for the VA in the billing department where she continued to work until the day that she passed. No matter what career she may have had at any given time her greatest joy and favorite career of
all was being a mother and grandmother, and she was a truly amazing one!
Cindy was survived by her three children and their significant others: Lindsay Blackard and Partner Chris, Eli and his wife Jenay Barker, Natalie and her husband Sean Zamora; eight grandchildren: Gregory Tyler and Rileigh Cox, Gabriel, Brenton, and Aaliyah Barker, Austin, Bryce, and Adam Zamora; numerous cousins and other family members as well. Cindy loved her children more than life itself. Her children were her world and she always made it a point to make sure that they always knew it. No matter what the sporting event, concert, meeting, recital, or anything else that her kids may have going on, you could bet that Cindy would be there, front row, her homemade sign in hand, always being her kids' number one cheerleader! Through the good times and the bad she was always by everyone's sides, holding their hand if needed, lending her shoulder, her helping hands, and most of all her heart, to anyone in need. When her children, or grandchildren ever needed her she was there. She would even step in and get involved with things even when she had no idea what she was doing. From rebuilding a classic car's engine with her son while it was hanging from a tree by a chain, to becoming a coach of her oldest daughter's softball team. Anyone that knew Cindy can definitely tell you she knows absolutely nothing about cars, but there she would be cover in oil and grease simply because her son was doing it, so she wanted to be right there by his side. She also knew nothing about coaching, but because her daughter's team needed a coach, there she was to step in even when the biggest joke of the season was that she didn't even know how to properly throw a softball, and in the end, she led the team to win the championship. She was an incredible woman in every way and no matter what she was doing she would always leave an impression and have a positive impact on everyone's lives that had the pleasure of being around her. When it came to Cindy it didn't matter what it was, she could make it happen. She was a woman of talent and she loved art, crafts, sewing, and especially creating things. Cindy took joy in making things for her kids and grandkids. Every Halloween she would create Halloween costume themes, and even make the costumes herself by hand. She even made the newspapers multiple times with her creativity for her costumes that she made for the kids, the three skunk costumes (Her Little Stinkers), the Flintstones, her chef (The Grill Master and The Hotdog), and even altering a dress for her granddaughter to create a beautiful Fairy princess. She later picked up crocheting and enjoyed making baby blankets and things like that for her grandchildren as well. She also found a love for the Cloud 9 Ranch and always looked forward to having a blast and having a nice relaxing getaway with her cousin Sheila. Cindy also had a love for animals. She recently got herself a new partner in crime, a dachshund named Guss that followed her everywhere, in
celebration of her remission.
Cindy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about two years ago. Over the past year and a half, she fought courageously to spend as much time in this world as she could with her family, and she was declared cancer free. Cindy passed away Saturday, July 15 th , 2023, at 4:15 am surrounded by all of her children and grandchildren at KU Medical Center. Cindy passed away due to liver failure, and still cancer free.
Cindy has always been an inspiration to all that knew her and touched so many lives. This world has lost a true shining light and she will be missed by all. The good Lord has definitely called his greatest daughter home and she finally officially has her wings that her family and friends always felt the warm embrace of from her throughout her entire life. Family and friends are invited to attend on Thursday, July 20 th , 2023, at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Visitation is from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, and the funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm.
