Orbie "Sonny" Jennings was born to Orbie and Opal Ruby (Cotter) Jennings.
He married the former Barbara Jelinek January 8, 1973 in Wichita Falls, Texas. From this union was born two sons, Kevin Dewaine and Michael Shawn. She preceded him in death on April 25, 1988.
He was drafted into the Army in 1968. He served during the Vietnam War in 1969 as a Light Weapons Infantryman, where he served honorably and performed several heroic and selfless acts for his fellow soldiers.
While serving in Vietnam he was awarded several distinguished awards and ribbons that include; 3 Bronze Stars.
