Al Benton passed away on June 26, 2023 surrounded by love. He was 92 years young. Al was born in 1931 to James and Earlene Benton in Walterboro, SC. He entered the Army in 1949 and served as a Tank Commander in the Korean War. While in Korea, Al earned a Purple heart and Bronze star among several other medals.

After leaving the service, Al moved to Ridgecrest, CA in Dec 1952 to begin working at China Lake. He worked there until his retirement in 1982. Al was a resident of Ridgecrest for over 60 years and has so many wonderful friends there.

In addition, Ridgecrest brought Al the love of his life, MaryAnn Brown. They enjoyed almost 40 years of love together before MaryAnn's passing on December 18, 2022.

Al was also preceded in death by both his parents, James & Earlene, and five of his eight siblings. Nesbit Attalie, JB Jr., C. Arthur, Wilhelmina and Keith.

Al is survived by his stepson and daughter in law, Tim and Julie Dedmon of Arizona; siblings Kenwood (CA), Mary (SC), Ray (FL) and many nieces and nephews across the United States.

Please join us for a graveside service for Al and MaryAnn on October 20, 2023 @ 11:00am at the Desert Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be immediately following at the VFW Hall on Alvord Street.
