She was born on May 19, 1930, at home in Dime Box, Texas to Samuel William and Mamie Ophelia (Bolander) Keng the ninth child of twelve. Joyce grew up on a farm in Giddings, Texas. She graduated from Giddings High School.
Joyce met and married Allan Delmore Pagel on November 11, 1951, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. They had two children: Randy Lee, born on January 2, 1955, and Lisa Gail, born on October 8, 1960.
She worked as a Telephone Operator in Giddings, Dresser Industries in Houston and Green Thumb Plant Rentals servicing downtown Houston. After both Allan and Joyce retired, they moved to their farm in Fayetteville to raise cattle.
She enjoyed quilting, genealogy, birdwatching, and gardening. She also enjoyed traveling, overseas and in the U.S., going as far as Europe, Sweden, Norway and Costa Rica.
She is survived by her son, Randy Pagel and wife, Kay (Becker) of La Grange, TX and son, Jonathan Lawrence and wife, Alec, and their children, Scarlett and Samantha, of Richmond, TX; daughter, Lisa Pagel Daniel and husband, Terry Lon, of College Station, TX and their daughters, Amber Michelle (Kulhanek) Bartek and her son, Bryce Wade Bartek, of Fayetteville and Olivia (Daniel) Tabor of San Angelo and her son, Jayden Clegg of Midland; two sisters: Barbara King of Friendswood, TX and Marlene Terrasa of Lake Jackson, TX; two sisters-in-law: Arlene Keng of Giddings, TX and Verlene Keng of Houston, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan; four brothers: Lee Roy Keng, Boyd Keng, Winston Keng and Cecil Keng; five sisters: Inez Heinemann, Ruth Dale, (twins)-Vera Hayes and Verna Caruso, and Twila Moncrief.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations with funeral services to follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Pagel Cemetery in Willow Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
