AJAY - Marjorie, passed away in her sleep on June 3, 2023 in San Diego, California. She was ninety-three years old. She lived a long and fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends who loved her and will miss her greatly. Born Helen Marjorie Salem in Westmont, Pennsylvania on January 13, 1930, "Marge" was the daughter of Charles S. Salem, Jr. and Natalia Salem. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Charles S. Salem, Jr. and sister Joanne Salem Mulligan and by her husband of 60 years, Edward Ralph Ajay. Marge is survived by her brother James Michael Salem of Pittsburgh, loving daughters Lisa Ajay Hatcher of Berwyn, PA and Joanne Ajay Dane of San Diego, grandchildren Robert Benjamin Hatcher of Richmond, VA, William Gray Hatcher of Malvern, PA, Andrew Dane, Kara Dane and Luke Dane, all of San Diego, and her great- grandchildren William Gray Hatcher, Jr., Ann Whelan Hatcher, Eloise Vance Hatcher and Jeffrey Campbell Dane. Marge will be remembered as an accomplished businesswoman, counsellor, golfer, silver life master bridge player, excellent cook - and most significantly, an exceptional teacher. In her eighties, she was still teaching children with learning disabilities how to read. Marge contributed to her community throughout her entire adult life, serving as Executive Director of the Johnstown YWCA and on the board of directors of Mercy Hospital. She was one of the founders of the Johnstown Women's Help Center in the 1970s and was a pioneer in helping area women and children go on to better lives. A memorial service will be held for Marge on August 30 at 10:00 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Locust Street in Johnstown.
