Mary, wife of Frederick William Mangold b 1876 Ohio, was born in Wales and came over with her family in 1889. She was the daughter of John Frederick Lloyd and Jane. Family story is that her father married 3 times.

In 1910 when Mary was 27 she had been married 5 years, had lost 2 babies and had a 3, 2, and 1 yr old. Four years later, at 31, she had 5 sons and 1 daughter all born in Brooklyn. They moved up to Dutchess Co or Marlboro. Then Fred worked in NYC building the "EL" [elevated subway] where he was killed by a falling beam in 1917. Mary "got the call from a girlfriend he was living with in NYC. So she went right down and got him." She then worked as a live-in Practical Nurse, putting the 3 youngest boys in the Children's Home in Poughkeepsie [an orphanage], Harold in a TB camp and Margaret in a foster home in Rhinebeck. By 1930, probably earlier, they were reunited in a Poughkeepsie apartment and everyone had a job. Mary was hard working and did all she could to take care of her large family.
