Richard Polite was born in Delaware and died La Cygne, Linn County, Kansas. He married Nancy Brewington, 15 Feb 1829, in Pickaway County, Ohio. By 1860, Nancy and Richard had moved to St. Mary's township in Hancock County Illinois and lived there until they moved to Linn County, Kansas about 1874. The children from this marriage where Anna M., James, Sarah A., Letty Ellen, Levi, Nancy Elizabeth, Sidney, Sadie, Harriet Emily, Richard Hamilton Polite.

Richard was a drummer boy in the War of 1812. It is believed his father James immigrated to Delaware in 1798 from Ireland and was a French Huguenots and had fled France earlier to England. This information however has not been authenticated.

Grandchildren buried next their grandparents Richard & Nancy Polite: Harry Simpson Row 12 on one side and Olive Lucia Fry Row 13 on their other side.
