Peter is the son of John Schmidt d. Nov 1790 and Catharine (Unk) Schmidt d. 1819.

John Schmidt is the son of Henry Schmidt of Lebanon Twp, Lancaster (now Lebanon) County who wrote his will on 23 Feb 1775 and was probated on 11 March 1775 (Lancaster Will Bk-C, Vol-1, page 270.) Henry lists his children: John, Christian, Jacob, Anna wife of Martin Greider, Henry, Tobias, Peter, Abraham, and Joseph.

The location of graves for Peter's father, John and grandfather, Henry are unknown.

A newspaper article (see attached image to this memorial) title "The Cornwall Hills" appeared in the Lebanon Daily News, Lebanon, Pa., dated Saturday October 23, 1875 -page 2.

Henry's wife is unknown, although according to the PA Mennonite Heritage Vol XI, #2, April 1988 issue, reference is made to Adams, Myers History page 46, that Barbara Moyer may have been the wife of Henry Smith, daughter of John and Mary Lenhardy Meyer. It also states that Henry was a Trustee of the Lutheran Mennonite Church in Hellam Twp, York County, Pa on 31 May 1746. At Trinity Tulpehoken Reformed Church, Jackson Twp, Lebanon County, Pa, Anna Maria, a daughter of Henry & Maria Barbara Smith was baptised the 27 Aug 1757.
